After Guardians Vol. 3, James Gunn Will Help Marvel Bring More Cosmic to the Big Screen

There’s no doubt in anyone’s mind that James Gunn has done wonders in introducing the general public to the awesomeness that is Marvel Cosmic with the two Guardians movies. And now Marvel recognizes that and it sounds as if he’ll be the one to help bring more Marvel Cosmic characters to the big screen in the future.

BuzzFeed has a really great and in-depth profile on James Gunn, and at the end it talks about how after he finishes Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 he’ll help Marvel decide on what Cosmic movies to do next:

“[It’s] basically me saying to Kevin, ‘OK, we’re going to do Guardians Vol. 3, and then I think those characters should have his or her own movie, and then this character here, and then we should bring this person in,'” said Gunn. “I think that they just trust me in terms of my vision of the more space opera aspects of Marvel. … I love the freedom to be able to create that fully. That doesn’t mean I never want to make an R-rated movie again, or make even a small movie. But right now, I feel really creatively fulfilled doing this.”

I think it’s great to have Gunn be the Kevin Feige of Marvel Cosmic. I’ve heard complaints about the changes he made to the characters in Guardians, but those were actually improvements and made them all more relatable. I completely trust him with my favorite corner of the Marvel Universe, so I can’t wait to see what he’s suggesting to Marvel to bring to the big screen after Guardians 3.
