Lucasfilm: No Announcement of Post-Episode IX Star Wars Movies in 2017

One of the more persistent (and seemingly bogus) rumors going into this year’s Star Wars Celebration was that they would surprise everyone with an announcement of an Obi-Wan movie. That’s obviously not on the table at this year’s convention, and we won’t hear anything about any Star Wars movie past 2019 this year.

Fandango has a quick interview with Lucasfilm’s Kathleen Kennedy about whether or not the Skywalker saga will continue past Episode IX (they don’t know), and she says they won’t be making any announcements about what movies are coming out after Episode IX this year:

“As far as whether Kennedy anticipates them making any big announcements regarding what movies will come next, she says they are coming, but don’t expect them right now. “I wouldn’t say this year, but certainly by next year,” she said.”

So whenever you see someone claiming there’s going to be some kind of surprise announcement of an Obi-Wan movie or the Boba Fett spinoff, just go on what Lucasfilm says. They won’t be talking about that this year. We’ll have to wait until some time in 2018 to learn of the Star Wars movies that will follow the conclusion of the Sequel Trilogy. The most likely time would be the Disney Annual Shareholder’s Meeting, which usually takes place around March.
