Marvel was facing a bit of controversy this week when it was revealed that X-Men Gold artist Ardian Syaf hid hateful propaganda in the artwork of the first issue. Marvel quickly reacted to the news and issued a statement that said they were fixing the art and that Syaf would be disciplined. At the time it wasn’t known exactly what this action would be, but tonight Marvel has confirmed they have terminated his contract.
Marvel issued a statement to Comicbook.com:
“Marvel has terminated Ardian Syaf’s contract effective immediately. ‘X-Men Gold’ #2 and #3 featuring his work have already been sent to the printer and will continue to ship bi-weekly. Issues #4, #5, and #6 will be drawn by R. B. Silva and issues #7, #8, and #9 will be drawn by Ken Lashley. A permanent replacement artist will be assigned to ‘X-Men Gold’ in the coming weeks.â€
Apparently he pulled a similar, but less extreme, stunt on an issue of Batgirl he did for DC. Hopefully no other comic publishers take a risk on the guy. This X-Men stunt was probably the end of his career.
