Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Will Have a Dolby Vision HDR Version

Think Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 looks colorful? Well there’s going to be a way to see it with the most colors possible on screen. The movie will be playing in special Dolby Cinemas across the country, which use Dolby Vision HDR to give the absolute best picture and color possible.

James Gunn confirmed today that the movie is complete, but they just need to finish up the various 3D versions and the special Dolby Vision EDR:

We’re still finishing the 3D, the 3D DI & the Dolby Vision EDR DI, but other than that we’re completely finished. I leave on press tour tmrw

Dolby Vision is one of the two standards for HDR (high dynamic range) that newer 4K TVs are using. While there are only a couple of sets out there right now that use Dolby Vision, the Dolby Cinemas are one way to see the HDR on the big screen.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 actually follows Rogue One, which played in Dolby Cinemas back in December. In the months that have followed more of these special theaters have opened up and I believe most are in AMC Theaters. The way you can tell if it’s a Dolby Cinema is a logo on the showtime listing on online ticketing sites.

If you haven’t experienced HDR with a 4K TV and UHD Blu-Ray yet, you can in theaters and Guardians of the Galaxy is definitely one that can melt eyeballs out of their sockets.
