With ABC cancelling Agent Carter and passing on the Marvel’s Most Wanted spin-off, it sounds like they’re now turning to Star Wars for potential new series ideas. While ABC obviously expressed interest back in 2013 after the Lucasfilm purchase, there hasn’t been any rumors about such a series since last year.
Now there’s some solid movement on a Star Wars television series. EW heard from ABC at the TCAs and they had this to say:
“Ohh, as a fan, I would absolutely love to say ‘Yes,’†she said. “The conversations with Lucas, we have had conversations with them and will continue to have conversations with them. I think it would be wonderful if we could find a way to extend that brand into our programming.â€
After the panel, she confirmed again that talks are ongoing.
“It’s all a little bit hush-hush,†Dungey said. “That company exists under a big shroud of secrecy. If you feel Marvel’s secretive, [Lucasfilm] takes it to a whole other level … [Talks] are ongoing. We don’t have an official timeline yet.â€
Prior to selling Lucasfilm to Disney, George Lucas produced fifty scripts for the Star Wars Underworld series. Those are apparently being mined by the Story Group for ideas to use in new Star Wars content, so it’s very doubtful whatever ABC produces will have anything to do with Underworld. And at the rate this sort of thing moves, it could be several years until anything comes out of these talks.
