I guess the flop of Ghostbusters isn’t discouraging Disney from attempting the same style reboot with a cult-classic from the 90s.
According to THR, Disney has hired two writers to do a reboot/sequel to The Rocketeer titled “The Rocketeers“. This is how they describe the plot:
“Set six years after the original Rocketeer and after Secord has vanished while fighting the Nazis, an unlikely new hero emerges: a young African–American female pilot, who takes up the mantle of Rocketeer in an attempt to stop an ambitious and corrupt rocket scientist from stealing jetpack technology in what could prove to be a turning point in the Cold War.”
To its defense, this sounds like a much better idea for a sequel than the Ghostbusters reboot. It’s still set in the same “universe” as the first movie where Cliff Secord was the original Rocketeer. It actually sounds a lot like the rumored Quantum Leap sequel where Sam’s daughter would leap through time with Al’s help to find her father. So this is a pretty cool idea for a Rocketeer sequel, especially since it’s been 25 years since the original and they would want a new younger cast involved.
It also sounds a lot better than the “Iron Man” style total reboot Disney was mulling a few years ago. So I can get on board with this!
