If you fought hard for a San Diego Comic Con ticket in the hopes of another big Star Wars panel like last year, you may be disappointed.
At SDCC, Friday is always the traditional “Star Wars” day. Today they announced the Friday schedule for this year’s convention…and there’s no Lucasfilm panel for Rogue One in Hall H on Friday. Room 7A will have Star Wars panels all day long from Hasbro, Del Rey, and more. But there isn’t going to be a Rogue One panel on Friday.
This is likely because Lucasfilm is holding Star Wars Celebration Europe the week before San Diego Comic Con. Those hoping to see Episode VIII at SDCC next year may also be disappointed because in addition to there being Celebration Orlando next year, the D23 Expo will also be held the week before Comic Con 2017.
It is always possible they’re holding the Rogue One panel for Saturday, but that would break with the traditional Friday Star Wars day. Even the Episode VII panel was held on Friday to go along with all the other Star Wars panels that day. If it is on Saturday, we’ll know for sure tomorrow and will update you on the details about the panel.
If they don’t do Star Wars a SDCC 16, and next year follows suit, it’ll really show that The Force Awakens panel was just another part of their very specific attempt to woo over disgruntled Star Wars fans with lies about Practical Effects being used (there were none despite the panel talking about them). If you want the latest info on new Star Wars movies, it’s probably a good idea to book tickets to Disney’s conventions rather than SDCC…
