Bantha Poodoo: Cutting Through the Star Wars Clickbait (Week of 7/3/2016)

With Lucasfilm producing a new Star Wars movie every year until the end of time, everyone wants to quickly cash-in on the franchise with some quick and stupid Star Wars stories. As a service to our readers we’ll be running down each week’s bit of Star Wars clickbait on the internet to try to debunk this week’s Star Wars stupidity.

Rey’s Episode VIII Hair Makes the Internet Go Stupid

There was only one major bit of Star Wars clickbait this week, but boy was it a whopper.

Daisy Ridley posted a video of her working out in the gym on Instagram, and she purposely wore a pillow sack over her hair to hide her Episode VIII hairdo. Of course, this sent internet sites into a fit of clickbait over something that’s really nothing at all. We don’t see her hair, so they’re running stories speculating over something we don’t see at all.

Back in April, MakingStarWars ran a report about Rey’s hair and costume in Episode VIII:

“Rey’s costume is very much what we saw in The Force Awakens at the very end of the film. She has the grey capri-length pants with boots as well as the arm wraps. But her vest from the end of the film is gone and she’s only wearing the off-white-colored tunic beneath, giving the costume a Luke Skywalker vibe. Her hair is also worn down now. She still wears the gun at her hip she received from Han Solo in The Force Awakens.”

So it’s really not a major change like most of the clickbait articles were speculating on. She just wears it down and not in the triple bun style she had in Episode VII. But when it’s a slow time for Star Wars new before the Rogue One trailer, sites will jump on any dumb Instagram video to try to get clicks.
