Hasbro Tries to Explain Why Rey is Missing From Star Wars Monopoly

star-wars-monopolyBack on Force Friday in September a new Star Wars Monopoly was released. Back then people didn’t think it was strange for Finn to be featured in it, as Disney/Lucasfilm was carefully hiding the fact that Rey is the main character of The Force Awakens.

Now that the movie is out and a whole generation of little girls are seeing the strong character of Rey as a hero to look up to, people are wondering why the main character of The Force Awakens wasn’t included in the new Star Wars monopoly set:

A Hasbro spokesperson gave EW this excuse as to why Finn (and not Rey) is featured in the new game:

“The Star Wars: Monopoly game was released in September, months before the movie’s release, and Rey was not included to avoid revealing a key plot line that she takes on Kylo Ren and joins the Rebel Alliance.”

That’s honestly a flimsy excuse as the set reveals that Finn is also part of the Resistance (and there isn’t a Rebel Alliance in The Force Awakens). That basically says that it’s OK to reveal that Finn is part of the Resistance, but don’t dare reveal that the girl (the central character on the movie poster) is.

Maybe they’ll re-release the new Star Wars Monopoly set with a Rey figure.
