We’ve known for a while that Avatar 2 was delayed until 2017, and while a December release was speculated, we now have a more specific release window for the sequel no one really cares about.
Cameron told the Montreal Gazette that it looks like Christmas is the targeted time frame for release:
“We have design more or less finished, which is an enormous task. It’s been about a two-year task. (We’ve finished) all the creatures and the landscapes, and the new worlds within the world of Pandora that you see. The writing is ongoing, but almost finished. Technical development is done. Stages are done. Infrastructure. So we’re really poised to start after the first of the year.â€
Thankfully they won’t be sent to die against Star Wars Episode VIII anymore, as 2017 marks the return of Star Wars to the traditional May release date. So Avatar 2 will have the Christmas release window all to themselves, but will it really matter when everyone has already forgotten the original 3D gimmick?
