There have been rumors for a long time about a new Star Trek series, and now it’s official. The only problem is it won’t be on TV.
Today CBS announced the development of a new Star Trek sereies, but it will be exclusive to their All Access streaming service:
“CBS Television Studios announced today it will launch a totally new Star Trek television series in January 2017. The new series will blast off with a special preview broadcast on the CBS Television Network. The premiere episode and all subsequent first-run episodes will then be available exclusively in the United States on CBS All Access, the Network’s digital subscription video on demand and live streaming service.”
Even worse, the series is being overseen by Alex Kurtzman, one part of the writing duo who brought us Transformers 2 and Star Trek: Into Darkness.
I can understand CBS wanting to drive subscriptions to their streaming service, but making Star Trek exclusive to it will just drive people to Torrents. This is an incredibly stupid move.
