The Force Awakens Does Acknowledge the Prequels

In another blow to the people hoping that Lucasfilm would retcon the Prequels out of canon, the new Force Awakens trailer shows that the movie acknowledges them. While people have been spreading lies that JJ Abrams only considers the Original Trilogy canon there are some definite Prequel references in the new trailer.

As Han Solo leads Finn, Rey, and BB-8 into Maz Kanata’s castle the much-talked about flags are seen overhead. Everyone’s been talking about the Mandalorian flag, because it makes them think they’re going to see Boba Fett, but there are a whole bunch of other flags up there. Other than the “Fett wheat” flag next to the Mando one, many of the flags reference Prequel and The Clone Wars characters.

Some of the flags are those of Pod Racers as seen in The Phantom Menace. There’s also one for the Ohnaka gang from The Clone Wars, and another looks very similar to Ziro the Hutt’s tattoos.

Despite referencing the Prequels, one shouldn’t read too much into these flags. Lucasfilm typically uses the Mando logo as a generic “Bounty Hunter” faction logo these days, and those flags are really just there to show that Maz Kanata’s place is a haven for all sorts of scum and villainy.

Still, this will likely piss off the Prequel Haters who falsely hoped that JJ Abrams would take a big dump on a part of canon that they don’t like.
