WARNING: The below post will contain mild spoilers about a character in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Tread carefully if you don’t want to know what could be a twist in the plot. It’s an expected twist based on Star Wars and Abrams history, but it’s still a little bit of a spoiler.
For a long time there’s been endless debate about Rey’s backstory and origins in The Force Awakens, and now a new rumor has surfaced that sheds some light on it. This information actually aligns with some things known about the character ever since some of the earliest leaks, which is why it’s probably pretty accurate.
MakingStarWars.net has heard:
- “Rey†is a pseudonym used by the hero in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.Â
- “Rey†was dropped off on Jakku by her parents.
- “Rey†doesn’t leave Jakku because she’s waiting for her parents to return. Should she leave, they may never find her.
- Her life on Jakku, living inside an AT-AT-turned-home makes Luke’s life on Tatooine look suburban and luxurious.
During the filming of The Force Awakens, everyone had a codename that was used to keep their identity secret…except for the new leads. Finn, Kylo, and Poe all had their actual in-movie names used and Rey was actually called “Kira”. When they were filming in Puzzlewood (which we now know as the Takodana scenes) people spotted “Kira” on the door of Daisy Ridley’s trailer. This information could mean that Rey is just the name she uses on Jakku, when her real name actually is Kira. The surname will likely still be something of heavy debate until the movie is released.
