Even more so than losing Robert Downy Jr., I think the thing I’d most be worried about losing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is Chris Evans as Cap. Ever since the first Captain America movie his casting was absolutely perfect. He is the perfect Steve Rogers, and the idea of his contract expiring and Marvel having to recast the role was scary.
Now it sounds like Chris Evans is open to extending his contract with Marvel. In an interview with Collider, Evans says:
“Listen, if Marvel wants me they got me. I’ve never had such a relationship where you have such—I mean look at my resume, I’m used to being on set being like, ‘Ah is this movie gonna be terrible?’ Marvel just can’t stop making great movies, they do it in their sleep. It’s wonderful directors and producers and actors and scripts, and it’s like a playground as an actor.â€
Now that penny-pinching Ike Perlmutter has no say in Marvel Studios, there doesn’t seem to be a reason why they would need to recast Evans when his contract is up. The option for Bucky to become Cap was always a possibility, but if Evans is willing to stay on I’d like them to keep the Steve Rogers Cap as long as possible!
