Star Wars: Episode VIII Begins Filming Next Month?

Early Episode VIII Filming

For a while there have been rumors of some Star Wars filming at an Episode VII location starting soon, and now it sounds like it’s for Episode VIII and it will begin next month.

Star Wars film crews will return to Skellig Michael in Ireland, but it won’t be for additional Episode VII filming as a certain segment of the fan base was hoping for:

“Skellig Michael is apparently home to Luke Skywalker in The Force Awakens and filming is due to begin on the Island once again on September 14th. But it’s not a reshoot or a few pick up shots for The Force Awakens. An inside source is telling us exclusively that an entire six weeks are blocked for filming in Kerry, which leads us to believe that this is in fact for Star Wars Episode VIII, which will be released in cinemas on May 26th 2017. Given that the local birdlife are well out of breeding season, this long six feet shoot does seem quite probable.”

JJ Abrams, Daisy Ridley, and Mark Hamill filmed on Skellig Michael for about three days towards the latter half of the Episode VII shoot. That short time on the island was to film the ending of the movie, so it sounds like Episode VIII may pick up pretty closely following the end of The Force Awakens showing what Luke and Rey have been up to over the short months that separate the two movies.
