Sorry EU fans, those hoping Imperial Admiral Montferrat would be in Rogue One may be disappointed as the actor people fancasted denies he’s playing a villain.
This all started when StarWars.com posted a Blade Squadron short story. Fans noticed that the Admiral Montferrat artwork (above) looked a lot like Mads Mikkelsen, who was just recently cast in Rogue One. However much like the early Episode VII fancasting that pegged Benedict Cumberbatch as Grand Admiral Thrawn, Karen Gillen as Mara Jade, and Lupita Nyong’o as Asajj Ventress, this too looks to be nothing more than fans letting their imagination run wild.
But it is a big or a small role?
– It is a very important role, as much I can say.
But you’re the bad guy?
– No, my character is actually not a bad guy, and then I can not say more, says Mads Mikkelsen, who will be in Denmark until the filming of the new Star Wars film starts in mid-September.
Mikkelsen is known for playing villains, having been a Bond villain opposite Daniel Craig in Casino Royale and most recently playing Hannibal in NBC’s recently cancelled series. So you can’t blame people for automatically assuming he’ll be a villain in Rogue One, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.
