The Battle of the Five Armies Extended Edition is Rated R

The Hobbit: The Battle of The Five ArmiesA R-rated Hobbit movie? Yup that just happened as the harsher rating has been applied to the Extended Edition of The Battle of the Five Armies.

We haven’t really heard much about the Extended Edition of the final Hobbit movie, which was strange. While the original two EEs were released in November prior to the release of the new movie, when the Return of the King EE came out they released it in the summer as there was no new LOTR movie that Christmas. But since Fathom Events is doing a thing where they’re showing all three Extended Hobbits in theaters later this year, perhaps that’s why they’ve held off talking about The Battle of the Five Armies.

Or perhaps it’s because the movie is now rated R?

That’s right. The movie based on a children’s book has been rated R by the MPAA for “some violence”.

I’m sure people will use this as yet another reason to bash the movie, while I’m more concerned about getting a release date for the Blu-Ray release to complete my collection of Middle-Earth movies by Peter Jackson.
