A couple of years ago a bogus rumor set the internet on fire with the terrifying thought of Back to the Future being remade starring Justin Bieber. That will never happen.
The Guardianhas a quote from Robert Zemeckis where they reveal that the contract he and Bob Gale signed with Universal prevents any Back to the Future movie being made without their approval while they’re alive. Zemeckis will never allow the movie to be remade:
“That can’t happen until both Bob and I are dead. And then I’m sure they’ll do it, unless there’s a way our estates can stop it.
“I mean, to me, that’s outrageous. Especially since it’s a good movie. It’s like saying ‘Let’s remake Citizen Kane. Who are we going to get to play Kane?’ What folly, what insanity is that? Why would anyone do that?â€
It’s too bad some other movies didn’t have similar contracts in place. Do we really need remakes of Point Break, Highlander, Gremlins, and Poltergeist? Too many great movies from the 80s are being remade already, yet there are some idiots out there who want them to remake the Star Wars Prequels. Instead of remaking movies, just make new ones.
