In announcing their new 2015-2016 season, Fox revealed when The X-Files will return and we’ll see Mulder and Scully back on television in January!
The six-episode limited series will debut Sunday January 24th before moving to its normal night of Monday:
The next mind-bending chapter of THE X-FILES debuts with a special two-night event beginning Sunday, Jan. 24 (10:00-11:00 PM ET/7:00-8:00 PM PT), following the NFC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME, and continuing with its time period premiere on Monday, Jan. 25 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT). The thrilling, six-episode event series, helmed by creator/executive producer Chris Carter and starring David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as FBI Agents FOX MULDER and DANA SCULLY, marks the momentous return of the Emmy- and Golden Globe Award-winning pop culture phenomenon, which remains one of the longest-running sci-fi series in network television history.
Longtime X-Files fans will remember that while the series began in the “Friday Night Death Slot”, Fox moved it to Sundays where it remained until the end. Even though they’re only putting it on this Sunday date due to the NFC Championship game, there’s some nostalgia there for X-Files fans. It’ll be weird to watch the show Monday nights at 8:00.
The six-episode season will film in Canada this summer, which should give the show a similar look and feel to the first half of the original series.
