Attention Internet: A Celebrity Visiting Pinewood Studios Doesn\’t Mean They\’re in Star Wars

Star Wars Facepalm

Perhaps the most annoying element of Star Wars click bait from the mainstream media and tabloids is the baffling idea that any celebrity who visits Pinewood Studios has automatically filmed a Star Wars cameo. These people seem to think that JJ Abrams is making a Star Wars version of “It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World” and has a special revolving door set up at Pinewood just for any celebrity to pop in and film a cameo.

Over the last few months, this is just a small selection of the big-name celebrities who are somehow filming a cameo for Episode VII simply because they were spotted at Pinewood Studios or in the vicinity:

  • Tom Cruise
  • Simon Pegg
  • Robert Downey Jr.
  • Samuel L. Jackson
  • Hugh Jackman
  • Nick Frost
  • Daniel Craig

Of course if you actually research any of these, you can see that they have absolutely nothing to do with Episode VII. Both Tom Cruise and Simon Pegg were visiting JJ Abrams at Pinewood because Abrams is producing their “Mission: Impossible 5”, which just began filming. The RDJ, Jackson, Jackman, and Frost rumors came from The Sun. For those in the US who don’t know, The Sun is basically the UK’s version of The National Enquirer. Which means it’s completely BS.

As for the recent Daniel Craig rumor? There’s a very good reason he was at Pinewood Studios. Pinewood is the home of the James Bond film series. All Bond movies are filmed there, and they’re set to begin filming Bond 24 there in just a couple of months. It’s obvious that he was at Pinewood for some early prep on the latest Bond movie, and not due to Star Wars.

Will logic stop people from claiming every celeb at Pinewood is in Star Wars? Of course not. Saying a big name celebrity will show up in Star Wars makes people click on articles. But this will all be something to laugh at after the movie is released next year.
