Long suspected due to their inability to use “mutants” in the Cinematic Universe, it sounds like The Inhumans movie is finally coming from Marvel.
Collider broke the news today that Marvel is moving ahead with a screenplay to bring the mutants-but-not-mutants to the big screen:
According to our sources, Marvel plans to handle The Inhumans in the same way they handled Guardians of the Galaxy. For those who don’t know, the original draft of Guardians was written by Nicole Perlman, who was part of Marvel’s writing program. That draft then went out to filmmakers. When James Gunn came on board, he added his flavor and details to the story, but the characters, story structure, and beats from Perlman’s draft remained in place. As Adam explained in his recent editorial, directors are brought on board to execute a specific vision.
Marvel has been laying the groundwork for The Inhumans for a while, with some strong Inhuman hints dropped in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the introduction of the Kree in Guardians of the Galaxy. It wouldn’t be surprising to see this movie slotted sometime after Doctor Strange, but before the Guardians sequel in Phase 3.
