Marvel Will Announce a New \’Classic Super Hero\’ Comic on The Colbert Report

Marvel already spoiled the Sam Wilson Captain America with the cover of Avengers #35

Marvel’s not done canceling short-running comic series to replace them with a new #1 just to lure investment collectors, as they will be announcing another new comic tonight on The Colbert Report.

Yesterday Marvel announced that Thor: God of Thunder would be ending to be replaced by an all-new Thor #1 featuring a new female Thor, and this announcement is said to be for “an all-new comic book title and all-new era for one of Marvel’s most classic Super Heroes”. Obviously this means they are going to be announcing the Sam Wilson Captain America, as Colbert is a big Cap fan. This also likely means that the current Captain America book will end, so the Sam Wilson Cap can have his own shiny #1.

In a way you can’t blame Marvel for pandering to the investment collectors who only buy #1s, the recent Amazing Spider-Man #1 apparently has about 500,000 orders the month it came out…which is almost unheard of these days. But for comic fans, Marvel is running their legacy into the ground by constantly ending and restarting books just for a temporary boost in issue sales for the new debuts.
