Edgar Rice Burroughs’ John Carter of Mars has had a long road to the screen. There have been multiple attempts over the years to bring the Barsoom series to theaters. An animated one was done in the 30s, and if released would’ve been the first feature length animated film, beating Disney’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. Multiple live action versions have been worked on over the last seventy years, and now one will be released next March.
Andrew Stanton, director of Finding Nemo and Wall-E at Pixar, is directing the big budget live action version of John Carter for Disney. Today via iTunes, Disney has released the first teaser poster for John Carter. Recently they removed the “of Mars” from the title, although the poster has an “M” on it. That could mean that the title may be changing back. We’ll have to see.
