Yesterday Activision Blizzard had their annual earnings call, in which it was announced that World of Warcraft’s subscriptions have dropped from 12 million worldwide to 11.4 million. That means 600,000 players are playing something else. Naturally, the reason for the drop was spun positively with Blizzard pinning the drop in subs in players consuming the content too quickly. But once they consumed the content, where do they go? Oh yea. So in response to the subscriber churn, Blizzard says they’re going to speed up the rate at which expansions come out. Lets just hope the quality remains there and it doesn’t become an EverQuest situation from 2002-2004 where a bunch of quick and crappy expansions came out.
