SEGA announces Captain America: Super Soldier

With next year’s Captain America movie poised to be one of the big movies of the summer you’d better believe there would be a tie-in videogame. While not the first Captain America game (we love the old Captain America & The Avengers arcade game), this new one will be set in WWII but not follow the exact plot of the movie. The original story is written by Christos Gage of Avengers: The Initiative fame.

“Videogame players the world over can now become Marvel’s iconic Super Hero Captain America,” said Gary Knight, Senior Vice President of Marketing at SEGA Europe and SEGA America. “Captain America: Super Soldier puts players in the boots of the ultimate Super-Soldier, wielding Captain America’s legendary shield. Working closely with Marvel ensures we’re delivering the calibre product that gamers and comic fans deserve and it’s a partnership we’re proud of here at SEGA.”

The game will have Cap facing off against Iron Cross, the forces of Hydra, and Arnim Zola. Red Skull is mentioned as a presence in the game, but it’s unknown if he is actually someone Cap fights.

The game is due next year for the Xbox 360 and PS3. There will also be versions for the PSP, DS, and Wii, although the screens you see below are from the HD consoles.
