After withstanding endless annoying questions about The Batman while trying to promote other projects, Ben Affleck has stepped away from directing the movie.
Affleck and Warner Brothers issued a statement tonight (via Variety):
“There are certain characters who hold a special place in the hearts of millions. Performing this role demands focus, passion and the very best performance I can give. It has become clear that I cannot do both jobs to the level they require. Together with the studio, I have decided to find a partner in a director who will collaborate with me on this massive film. I am still in this, and we are making it, but we are currently looking for a director. I remain extremely committed to this project, and look forward to bringing this to life for fans around the world.â€
While the bomb of Affleck’s Live By Night might have had a small part to do with this, there was an immense amount of pressure on Affleck when it came to directing a Batman movie. The internet and critics would not let up on him a few months ago, and I even predicted he’d probably step away after seeing him get annoyed at the endless interrogation people were putting him through:
If Affleck gets sick of Batman because of endless questions about it and abandons it, you OWN that Internet.

So I hope you’re happy, internet. Affleck (who directed a Best Picture winner) is no longer directing The Batman.
