Say what you will about JJ Abrams two Star Trek films, they made money. Enough money that the cast has since become bigger stars, and now the actors behind Kirk and Spock have signed on for a Star Trek 4.
With Star Trek: Beyond beginning filming in Vancouver, Paramount has quietly given the cast a big pay raise and secured the two key characters for a potential fourth movie according to The Hollywood Reporter:
“The third installment of the rebooted Star Trek franchise boldly heads into production this week in Vancouver, and its cast is getting a big pay raise. At the same time, the studio behind Star Trek Beyond quietly has locked up two key players for a potential fourth installment.
Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that Paramount and producer-financier Skydance Entertainment recently completed last-minute re-negotiations with the Star Trek stars, a move that has added as much as $10 million-$15 million to the budget.”
Obviously Star Trek 4 would depend on how Beyond does, but as that one is coming out in 2016 on the 50th Anniversary of the franchise…it’s doubtful it’ll completely bomb. And Paramount would need the whole cast for a fourth movie, but securing Kirk and Spock at this point means they’re pretty sure they’re doing the fourth Star Trek.
