Cap Doesn\’t Pass the Shield in Captain America 3

Death of Captain AmericaRecently Marvel announced that, in the comics, Sam Wilson will be taking over the role of Captain America. This is part of an on-going storyline where Steve Rogers had the super soldier serum sucked out of his body by a villain and is reduced to being an old man with a cane.

As there are a lot of people out there who don’t read comic books, and only pay attention to them when a big event like the Sam Wilson Cap takes place, there is a bizarre belief that Chris Evans would be passing off the shield in Captain America 3. Despite Evans still having another Marvel movie on his contract to fulfill (Avengers: Infinity), this hasn’t stopped people from asking him about that happening, and he squashed it with MTV:

“Who’s handing off the shield? Don’t take my job from me prematurely dude,” Evans said. “I’m sure it’ll happen at some point, all good things have to come to an end. But I’m really happy playing the character.”

While the general public is focused on the Sam Wilson Cap for the time being, as that art is being plastered everywhere and it’s getting a ton of hype, the most likely successor in the movies would be Bucky. Not only does it happen in the comics before Sam Wilson, Sebastian Stan is rumored to have a nine-movie contract with Marvel similar to the one Samuel L. Jackson had.

That means there can be multiple additional appearances of The Winter Soldier prior to Bucky taking over the shield after Steve Rogers is slain by Thanos in Avengers: Infinity in 2018.
