Star Trek Into Darkness Klingon

Will Klingons be the villains?

It’s pretty much set that we’ll be seeing the third Star Trek movie just in time for the 50th anniversary in 2016, and now the big question is who the villain will be. After the backlash about the whole Khan situation and the constant lies to hid him from filmgoers, will Roberto Orci be more forthcoming about the next sequel?

Speaking to Geoff Boucher on his Humans from Earth podcast, Orci explains that the third movie takes the crew into deep space. ComicBookMovie has this transcription:

“In [Into Darkness] they set out finally where the original series started. The first two films – especially the 2009 [Star Trek] – was an origin story. It was about them coming together. So they weren’t the characters they were in the original series. They were growing into them and that continues on in the second movie. So in this movie they are closer than they are to the original series characters that you have ever seen. They have set off on their five-year mission. So their adventure is going to be in deep space.”

Early rumors from when Into Darkness was released said the Klingons would be the villains, but this quote makes it sound like something more exotic. Orci joked about the Horta, but that actually wouldn’t be such a bad choice…
