Who Was That Blue Guy in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.?

agents-of-shield-kreeFinally hitting its stride, last night’s episode Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. introduced some very interesting new elements to the series, and it is finally becoming the Marvel show people want it to be.

At the end of the episode Coulson discovers the real T.A.H.I.T.I. as well as the origin of the “GH” initials that are throughout the episode. It turned out to be half of a blue body in a case with tubes coming out of his torso. While some have speculated this was a Frost Giant from Thor, the way Marvel is acting by keeping the identity secret means it isn’t a known character we’ve seen before.

The theory is that the blue body is a Kree. This would tie it into the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy and the larger Marvel Cosmic Universe. Specifically, it’s believe that the Kree is Geheneris HalaSon Mahr Vehl, which is the Ultimate Comics version of Captain Mar-Vell. That explains the “GH”, and as the Marvel Cinematic Universe seems to combine elements from Marvel 616 and Ultimate Marvel it would make sense.

Also Marvel Scooper Roger Wardell did say recently that Coulson would be Mar-Vell:

In case I wasn't clear before, Agent Coulson is Captain Mar-Vell and Skye is Jessica Jones…

And now, today:

His subconscious mind is Mar-Vell, but his conscious mind is actually that of an agent who was once named Coulson.

Later on if he chooses to take the form of Coulson, he still has much of Coulson's memories of life growing up on Earth.

However the real Coulson did die in Avengers…. And he can never know they are now using his genetics and body…

And in some ways he's a backup for the subconscious of a captured Kree warrior. Inside his tube captain Mar-vell is almost dead…

Mar-vell almost died when he crashed on Earth, and they did what they could to save his mind.
