10 Can\’t Miss Panels from San Diego Comic Con 2011

|

Every year at Comic Con, there are some panels that everyone continues to talk about long after the show. While sometimes you really need to pick and choose what panels you’ll check out (due to overlapping schedules), we’ve run down the schedule for this year’s show and picked out the ten panels you can’t miss. You may have to pick one over the other, but these look to be some of the coolest this year.

The Walking Dead

There’s a lot of big television panels at Comic Con this year, more so than movies. But the coolest, and perhaps the biggest (outside of True Blood) will be the Walking Dead panel Friday at 11:15 to 12:15 in Ballroom 20. Andrew Lincoln, Jon Bernthal, Sarah Wayne Callies, Laurie Holden, Norman Reedus, Steven Yeun, Jeffrey DeMunn, series creator/writer/director/executive producer Frank Darabont, executive producer Gale Anne Hurd, executive producer Robert Kirkman are all scheduled to be there. So the entire cast and creators will be on stage, and they will apparently show a preview of season two!

The Adventures of Tin-Tin

As I said, you will probably have to decide what panel to see and what to miss; as this one will take place at the same time as the Walking Dead panel, only in Hall H. Why is this panel such a big deal? According to Deadline; Steven Spielberg himself will be at the panel to show off clips from the movie. How many times in your life do you get to see Spielberg in person?

Doctor Who

This is really the only big thing to see on Sunday, the final day of Comic Con. In Hall H from 12:30 to 1:30; Matt Smith and Karen Gillen will take the stage. A Q&A is promised along with exclusive footage of the final half of Series Six, which should premiere on BBC America in just a couple months.

20th Century Fox

Fox’s Hall H panel on Thursday from 3:15 to 4:30 is a total mystery and no one knows what they’re showing. But there are two really big rumors. The first is that Ryan Reynolds will show up to unveil some of the Deadpool costume designs. And the second is that they may be showing some kind of teaser footage from Prometheus, as its rumored that Rise of the Planet of the Apes may have a trailer for it.

The Amazing Spider-Man

Sony’s panel in Hall H on Friday is huge. They’re showing off Ghost Rider, 30 Minutes or Less, the Total Recall remake, and most importantly; The Amazing Spider-Man. They’re saving Spidey for last as they are rumored to be debuting the trailer at the con, and with their panel late in the day on Friday; most people will be talking about it all weekend.

An Early Evening with Kevin Smith

This is the perfect way to end the day Saturday in Hall H. From 5:30 to 7:00; Kevin Smith will take the stage and if you’ve never experienced one if his talks…then this is an absolute must-see panel to check out at Comic Con this year.

Game of Thrones

Probably one of the coolest panels on Thursday, this one takes place in Ballroom 20 from 3:00 to 4:00. Emilia Clarke as Daenerys Targaryen, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as Ser Jaime Lannister, Peter Dinklage as Tyrion Lannister, Kit Harington as Jon Snow, and Jason Momoa as Khal Drogo will all be appearing. George R. R. Martin will moderate the panel. How frakin’ cool is that?

DC: Superman

One of the big mysteries about the DC relaunch is what DC will be doing with Superman. Hopefully we’ll find out from Grant Morrison and J. Michael Straczynski on Friday from 3:00-4:00 in Room 6DE.

DC Comics – The New 52

Chances are, this one is going to be a pretty packed panel as everyone wants to know exactly what DC is doing with the relaunch. DC Comics’ Dan DiDio,Bob Harras, and Eddie Berganza will hopefully answer a lot of questions and calm some nerves on Friday from 11:15-12:15 in Room 6DE.

Star Wars Books

From noon to 1:00 in Room 7AB on Friday, Timothy Zahn will be talking about the 20th Anniversary of Heir to the Empire. The author of the absolute best Star Wars books is having a panel at Comic Con, and it’s one that may be a tough call to miss.
