Anne Francis dies at 80

Sadly, it’s been announced that Anne Francis, the female lead from the ground breaking 1956 science fiction film “Forbidden Planet,” died of complications from pancreatic cancer.

Francis was a talented and prolific actor who worked along side Hollywood icons like Glenn Ford, Leslie Neilsen, Paul Newman, and Jerry Lewis.  In addition to her film work, Francis worked on a number of golden age classic television shows like “Gunsmoke,” “Mission Impossible,” “The Twilight Zone,” as well as more contemporary shows like “Home Improvement” and “Nash Bridges.”

For science fiction fans, Frances is best known for her role as Altaira “Alta” Morbius in Fred M. Wilcox’s “Forbidden Planet.”  “Forbidden Planet” is a smart science fiction adaptation of William Shakespeare’s “The Tempest.”
