In a story that has exploded across social media (mostly Twitter), a first grade girl in Chicago was recently bullied for liking Star Wars. Apparently she had a Star Wars water bottle that she loved, and the boys at her school began bullying her because they claimed that only boys could like Star Wars. The original blog post regarding the incident is here, although the site’s been up and down lately due to the traffic to it. This is what the author’s daughter said about the bullying:
“The first grade boys are teasing me at lunch because I have a Star Wars water bottle. They say it’s only for boys. Every day they make fun of me for drinking out of it. I want them to stop, so I’ll just bring a pink water bottle.”
Well, if there’s one thing that’s true about the Internet it’s that you do not mess with a Star Wars-loving girl; no matter what age she is. So, the entire Star Wars community has responded big time.
Star Wars stars from the Clone Wars leaped into action on Twitter. Ahsoka herself Ashley Eckstein tweeted that Her Universe would be sending her a care package. Jaime King, voice of Aurra Sing, also tweeted that the Clone Wars cast would be sending her a big surprise. And among other big forms of support, Dark Horse Comics is sending her a box of Star Wars comics.
Don’t mess with Star Wars fans!
